Something interesting I read recently, which has helped me to put into context the events of past 15 months.
From Man and his Symbols, edited by Carl G. Jung:
The actual process of individualisation – the conscious coming to terms with one’s inner centre (physic nucleus or Self) begins with a wounding of personality, and the suffering that accompanies that. This initial shock amounts to a sort of “callâ€, although it is often not recognised as that. On the contrary the ego feels hampered in its will or its desire and usually projects the obstruction onto something external. That is the ego accuses God, the economic situation, or the boss, or the marriage partner on whatever is obstructing it … The hidden purpose of the oncoming darkness is generally so unusual, so unique, so unexpected …

Friday, October 22nd, 2010Five years ago today our first daughter Grace came into our lives. Grace’s birthday party with her friends is in a couple of weeks, but our friend Mary arranged a couple of surprises to make Grace’s actual birth day special:
What a wonderful day.

Today is a proud day for Australian Catholics. One of our own has been recognised as a saint. Even if you aren’t into the whole "saint" thing, and I know some simply don’t believe in God, while others accuse Catholics of idolatory (Don’t call me an idolater! – joke), but Mary MacKillop was an extraordinary woman, who lived her ideals by living with and serving the poor. She was ahead of her time in so many ways. And if nothing else, her’s is a life worth remembering and celebrating for her actions alone.
